I'm just worried Rain's gonna kill Poyopoyo, or otherwise do something to harm it and thus hurt Lily. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I'm still worried all the same, given she's clearly mad that Lily's getting all the attention, while seemingly 'goofing off' and not doing things the right way (read: Rain's way).

I'm unsure... but I'm 90% sure that new slime is going to be at the center of it all.
Note that Rain (the jealous girl) was more proud of killing harmless slimes than befriending them... Esmeralda (the elderly teacher) wanted to teach a lesson about the weight being alive and taking a life, not abusing/exerting power over the helpless. What Lily did instead was remind Esmeralda that there are times when one can simply appreciate being alive and sharing its joy.
I'm actually more concerned that Rain's first act was to kill rather than observe the slimes. Esmeralda wanted to teach a lesson in "adventure", not score-keeping kills for the sake of "sport". The way Rain went about killing the slimes as an experiment for her magic is a sign of a potential psychopath right there. I can't see Rain's senseless killings going over well with Esmeralda had she revealed them because she basically toyed with other lives for her amusement.

TBH, that was a reminder for some people (myself included) when we first encountered "societal expectations" and/or "social norms/rules". Not understanding the "unwritten rules" and/or social cues was a real pain in the ass growing up. Being on the tism spectrum also didn't help for people like me; if anything, it made things that much harder.
Frankly, I'm glad Weiss responded the way he did. Not all parents are as considerate nor sympathetic.
