It's criminally underrated, easily one of my favorites over the last few years.

Rip lady. The use of her preference for traditional kimono vs western clothes as a symbol for her getting sequestered (trapped, it seems like) into a domestic life she clearly doesn't want is interesting.
I adore how kimono look, but now it's making me think that for some people during this era it was a symbol of restriction, similar to the changes in acceptable skirt lengths, or women wearing trousers in western history. Interesting to think about for sure.

Ngl for a moment there I thought Makoto's father was her husband and that he was some sort of scoundrel. Fortunately it seems not, but also we still don't know anything about him! I'm dying to know what his deal is, and how did he end up adopting Makoto?

Well, I'll be patient.... I suppose it'll be a multichapter arc later, it's clearly important.

While I understand the above-mentioned commentary on repression and her dislike of the roles she has to perform, I gotta wonder...was she perhaps trying to process losing her husband's alter this way? With all the talk of the ephemeral nature of everything, maybe this helps give her closure or maybe try and put herself in the alter's shoes and see how she would feel.

Or a more far-fetched theory: was she trying to emulate and act like how she'd imagine the alter would act with a man if she was untethered from the husband?
