There's a kernel of something interesting, at least. Tojo got her handholding plan by reading Shojo manga, which led to an incomplete plan. Some insight, but somewhat misled by Manga logic. Then we wrap it up in a crispy shell of meta-meaning, as this is also a manga giving terrible romance advice. It's a bad advice meta burrito!

Unfortunately, I doubt this was intentional or leading to something clever. Just an accident of the medium.

But if it was honest and straightforward, it would not be a novelisation. You are never going to see a WN/LN/Manga/Anime where a protagonist wanders up to a love interest and says, "I think you're really nice, can we go grab a coffee" and get a straightforward answer. Especially not high school kids from Japan.
But do you know the one cliché that I really hate is where the boy bends forward with his arm out straight... Do they actually do that in Japan????

I hate to sound all incel'ly, especially since I'm married, but women are the worst at this, at this age. As per usual, they overthink EVERYTHING! They never grasp how stupidly simple we men are. When dealing with any 16 year old boy, just walk up to him and say "Wanna put your hand under my shirt?" Bingo, instant relationship! The chances of it lasting are close to zero anyway, so just grab what you want (all men are that simple) and enjoy your teenage years.

What bothers me is that the plot device used to extend the story here is so blatantly bad that no one in here is defending it. It’s horrendous advice. I would be more accepting if the friend said to slow down as to not scare him off, but this is a sure fire way to absolutely derail progress. I have zero faith in the MC to be able to see through it. this is rent a girlfriend level stupid
