That said if Kiri became a moth from a mantis because it was better suited for a child, does this mean Taya could become something other than a spider? I can see where nei is going with this but I'm a little confused. On the one hand mantises are terrible parents, notorious for eating their own children (it's not just male mantises who shouls fear) but on the other hand...come to think of it spiders actually do make good mothers, I looked it up and while eating males is common, it seems offspring cannibalism is very rare among spiders and indeed the mother often dies protecting her egg sac. Good thing Taya apparently escaped that fate!

That's actually a very uncommon thing for them to do, and it happens basically only in captivity or under extreme starvation situations in the real world; so long as they're sated, then they don't reach for the nearest "food", which is "anything edible that isn't myself".
