First of all, let's not trying to defend/lessen his crime by lightly saying "he touched a couple boobs". He assaulted minors, and he deserved his sentence (which he got off quite lightly). Japan is notorious for being lenient with sexual assaults, after all.

That being said, I agree that this case is a huge fucked up by the publisher. They definitely knew who he was, still ran with him under new pen name, then now throw him under the bus just because they did the same shit with a worse offender. The whole thing with them is shady af. As fucked up as Matsuki's crime was, and as lenient of a punishment he got, he still served it thus should be (almost) a free man under the eyes of the laws now. He deserves a second chance, and hopefully this manga can continue, even under another publisher because the current one is the real villain here.

Japan is not notorious for being lenient on sex crimes. They are notorious for being lenient on first-time offenders - which is how a rehabilitative system should work. People see light sentences for sex crimes and assume it’s because Japan is soft on any sex crime.

No. Look at what they do to repeat offenders. Their prisons are gnarly. 2 years in a Japanese prison does the same amount of psychological damage as 10 years in a soft-ass American one. One prisoner I read about did 40 years in Japanese prison - he was unable to speak or take care of himself when he got out despite being physically ok for 70ish years old.

The mangaka was a first-time offender, so he got off lightly on punitive stuff but was forced into treatment. That’s normal in a rehabilitative system - and the Japanese system is considered harsh by many progressive standards.

Wrong mangaka, dumbass. This guy didn’t feed shit to anyone. He tapped some boobs and sped away on his bike like a bratty child. His sentence was commensurate with the severity of the crime. That’s how progressive justice systems work. Virtue signal elsewhere. The pedos are the one virtue signaling about how hard they would punish pedos. It’s called projection.
