Oh, I see. I continued on the topic of how and where to read comics.
On the topic of walling off content, Comick had a very novel approach to resolving paywalls with its shortly delayed chapter releases that allowed a group to promote their website. It was still new by the time the site ceased to host content, but I think that was a massive improvement compared to going nuclear like MangaDex does.
A related scanlation scene misbehaviour that has been allowed to fester is the concept of sniping. Laying claim to a work and letting readers harass other groups should not be a thing. Combatting this also prevents groups from laying claim to a work as a way of advertising themselves, then silently drop it until someone else picks it up, to then do a mass release and abandon it again. If the toxic exclusivity nonsense isn't condoned, this would resolve itself naturally. From what I've read, there was a for-profit group that started this stuff in the first place.
