Wataru didn't even know about him, yet Masato decided that ruining his marriage, manipulating his wife into having an affair, destroying his family and even dragging Kokone into all of it was somehow justified because of what their father did.

And Ayaka isn't much better. Whatever problems she had with Wataru as a husband, she still made her own choices. Yet by the end, both of them get to hide behind their reasons and circumstances after putting Wataru through hell.

Their justifications are so ridiculously weak compared to what they actually did that you basically have to turn your brain off completely to get any satisfaction out of that ending. The author did a really poor job here.

The only REAL victim in this entire mess was Kokone. She had absolutely nothing to do with any of it, yet she was the one caught in the middle of her mother's affair, Masato's revenge against her grandfather, and the destruction of her family.

Ok, now that @UbelBlatt did the missing chapter, it's finally complete, thanks for the hard work.

The First Case isn't perfect and is very fast by the end, but I always had a soft spot for it, I see lots of people angry Ayaka didn't get the kind of comeuppance they wanted, but I'm fine with what she got, Okatani got his little Kokone and ended in a better place.

I do enjoy some harsher consequences too for people who cheat, but I feel Okatani managed to turn things around quick enough before he was too damaged by what Ayaka did, that's why I'm fine with what she got.

If you people are that thirsty for harsher consequences for cheating spouses for check Saretagawa no Blue, a complete manga that's officially licensed, this one can even make you a little sad for the antagonists due how screwed they get by end, but you always remember how bad they were to the main characters early on so the sadness washes away, and Jinsei Gyakuten, the latter is especially insane, the levels of consequences teenagers who weren't even married go is cosmic karma levels, but that's in the Web Novel which is pretty far ahead, the manga version hasn't got anywhere near those events yet.

Not sure on others, but I wanted to see her showing guilt, to realize the weight of all she has done, how wrong was what she did, that she MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY as an adult. Show that she have a lot to do to payback for her lies and deceit.

This. 100% this. This really is the best outcome for Kokone all things considered. Despite having divorced parents, if both parents can move past their resentment and be on friendly terms for her, Kokone will have a better likelihood to do just fine growing up. Cause in all honesty, if the readers in these comments sections had their way, Kokone would be motherless since Ayaka would've been strung up on a tree, which would've made this story shit.

I get it from a storytelling standpoint that it is satisfying to see the villains get the comeuppance, but in this story, these aren't the archetypical villains. They're just selfish people, and in that, Ayaka did get her comeuppance. Lost custody of her daughter, lost the person she once loved, lost the person she does love, lost her high-brow lifestyle, and is moving back in with her mother. Could there have been more? Sure. But we got what we got, and it's a pretty good outcome all things considered. Most importantly, it's a good outcome for Kokone.

Now for the half-brother. There should've been something more done to him. At least I can get some sort of defense for Ayaka in that she does apologize to Wataru, albeit at the very end of her projecting onto him (which is his fault for providing her an out). I feel like if we had just one more chapter to flesh things out, at the end of her rant I could see it circling back to her realizing how much of a fuck up she is. The set up is there, just no time to flesh it out. The half-brother though? Nope. He has no reason, there is no defense. He actually gets away scot-free, which is an actual "shame on you author" moment. There's no reason to forgive him, nor should he ever be forgiven, but the author wanted to show Wataru as a forgiving man. Hell, Case 2 should be Wataru going "alright your turn" and suing the brother for damages or something.
