No, you stupid bitch. You must be willing to sacrifce your beloved child for our evil plan.

Gotta love Sitara wanting Toregene to be just as singleminded as her. I'm sure this isn't going to make Guyuk hate her at all.

Note how she's no longer interacting with any of the Khwarezian Empire women or her only companion Shira, she regards as a pawn at best.

She has no positive interactions with anyone except Toregene and even then she's only relates to Toregene when she's going on about their revenge against the Mongols.

She has nothing in her life but revenge.

I wonder what would her mistress Fatima say about this

What's sad is that so much of Sitara's revenge is built on her sense of duty as Fatima's slave. Yet Fatima's final action was sacrificing her life to protect her adopted daughter. Fatima didn't see Sitara as a slave; she wouldn't want Sitara to waste her life trying to avenge her.

Same goes for Toregene. Literally everyone she held close wanted her to live her best life and tried so hard to give her a chance at it (even (ch. 39) Khulan herself tried to play a part in it years later). But in the end, it all comes down to what Toregene chose for herself. If she wants to keep that hatred ignited forever, so be it. There's no right or wrong way to live a life, anyway.
It's incredibly hard to give up an idea that has defined you as a person for most of your life. Even if you know letting it go will make you happier, there's a lingering fear that by doing so you'll betray yourself, along with everything and everyone you hold close. Even though you clearly understand that all that matters is the person you are right now, and that the events you went through and the decisions you've made shaped who you are and are already a part of you and your history, it still feels like all those years of your life were for nothing, so you just keep clinging to the idea. You trick yourself into choosing between two bitter alternatives: either cast aside these destructive ideas at the cost of doubting whether you've made the right choice, or double down on them, knowing full well this path leads to nowhere.

this manga really brings home the tragedy of the women who become wives as part of a treaty or conquest…that their children aren’t children of THEIR culture, but children of the empire instead.

I can understand why Toregene and Sitara choose the path they’re on. it’s hard to “just be happy” when you’re part of this machine that tramples on others. especially Toregene, being placed where she is. should she smile and laugh when she receives pillaged goods? Sorgaghtani knew how to happily receive a book without thinking about what had been done to obtain it. Toregene doesn’t know that trick.

If you have a son then he will have to learn how to fight, know the possibility of death every single day of his life, and thousands of lives be at your hand. If you have a daughter then she will be used as a "present" to be a wife for whatever man in power has eyes on her, baby machine, and/or unable to protect yourself when attacks happen.

Children are nothing except pawns for power.

Let's not forget that Ogedei once asked her what it would be like if the hatred was at her. If their clan had attacked Persia and brought back Sitara.

History can be a bit funny but very cruel over all

A rape child isn't a son anyway.

Would she still be against this vengeance after being told they "killed" her son?
(yes, I know he is alive, but no one knows this)

She probably would still be against it, yeah. Not in the sense that she'd be moralistically "disappointed" in her or that she wouldn't share her anger, but in the sense that she'd be sad that the love she showed Sitara became this curse that led her down such a bitter path,

...especially when said path will inevitably end in Sitara/Fatima suffering such a horrible death.

Actually speaking of Muhammad, I'm curious what they'll do with him since his life was such an obvious mirror to Sitara's story. He got captured by the Mongols, became an advisor to Hulegu and collaborated with him at Baghdad, and became an official in the Ilkhanate. I mean, in some sense he is Sitara if she chose to let go of the past, for better or for worse.

That historical spoiler will likely be the epilogue of the manga.

I thought the same. I'm just not sure how much Tomato Soup will explore things after 1246. There's a lot of events that logically "need" to be depicted because they're important to the supporting characters, but it's hard for a story to go on for much longer after the main character dies.

Things like Guyuk's death, Shira's death, Mongke's rise to power, and the siege of Baghdad seem far too narratively and thematically relevant to be skipped, but that leaves Tomato Soup with a lot of ground to cover without her 2 protagonists in the picture.
