As someone who was abused and beaten all throughout my childhood and teenagehood years, I can reliably say that this is the only way you can make sense of it all.
A juvenile is dependent on her seniors and elders. She looks up at them like an adult may look up at God. They are infallible, never utter any lies, know and speak only the truth, and can only do good. So, when the juvenile finds herself at the receiving end of pain and discomfort, she cannot find fault in her seniors. They are the perfect beings in her eyes. And she is biologically and instinctively driven to trust and obey them. So, the only way she can make sense of the situation she is in right now, is to find fault in herself. All of this is happening to her, because she is the one stepping out of line. She is the one in the wrong. She is the bad child. And she deserves it all.

It seems like onee-chan only needs to survive a bit longer. She is in onii-chan's class, and he is taking university entrance exams soon.
I just worry that she will end up trapped in a cycle. Just like how she almost let scumbag onii-chan go all the way- I hope she keeps being strong and doesn't fall into the same trap that a lot of girls abused as children fall into by being with an abusive man or being so desperate to move out that she lets herself get pulled into Japan's seedy sex industry to make quick money to support herself.

She probably noticed how the girl is always tense, and how she habitually grips her clothes around her stomach. We can see her doing that whenever something makes her scared. This girl is visibly traumatized as all hell, and it's frankly concerning that her parents seemingly never noticed.
What made her realize that Maho was being beaten?
Reading this a second time really highlights all the little clues and bits of foreshadowing. Also pisses me off even more. Onii-chan really is a scumbag.

Maybe on the part why a little girl hide herself in closet, and how good she is in being stealthy.
Means she is used to hide herself, and easy guess of why she needs to go into hiding, is there is something wrong in the household, abuse is the easiest to guess. If not for parent abuse, the abuse from her brother, and girl just confirmed it.
A bit forceful for story, but it is pretty well done. A reminder that giving too much freedom to kids can be fatal, as kids too, either being aware of it or not, can do cruel things.
