As someone who was abused and beaten all throughout my childhood and teenagehood years, I can reliably say that this is the only way you can make sense of it all.
A juvenile is dependent on her seniors and elders. She looks up at them like an adult may look up at God. They are infallible, never utter any lies, know and speak only the truth, and can only do good. So, when the juvenile finds herself at the receiving end of pain and discomfort, she cannot find fault in her seniors. They are the perfect beings in her eyes. And she is biologically and instinctively driven to trust and obey them. So, the only way she can make sense of the situation she is in right now, is to find fault in herself. All of this is happening to her, because she is the one stepping out of line. She is the one in the wrong. She is the bad child. And she deserves it all.
