I think the author is terrible at communicating anything to the reader. Univas's goals and actual actions are often at odds but I feel like this is particularly egregious. The only reason he was going to the adventurer guild was to get a job to make some quick money to buy food. Ignore that they were just at the ocean and could've just gotten some fish there. How long does Univas plan on staying in this town? They gave him the worst paying job available. Doing this job will likely take quite awhile to accumulate the funds necessary to buy all the food they need to continue their journey.

Is there really no other avenue for him to make money? Could he not just hunt some animals and sell the pelts? Cause it makes him look like a moron to just gladly eat the shit people throw at him when it seems like there are better options available. Honestly it feels like his whole journey doesn't actually matter and he doesn't care about it. He has no urgency whatsoever and is constantly sidetracked by stupid nonsense. People keep materially getting in his way and throwing roadblocks in front of him but every time he's just like yeah whatever doesn't matter. Does not give the impression he really cares that much about fixing Trans.

So within the span of a single month the hero has lost nearly 800,000 positive impressions in the total population of his fame, but in that same time MC has only managed to gain about 63,000 positive impressions? I assume he gained all those within the last month as well since that's how stupid this manga is - absolutely nobody in the entire universe liked him, not even any friends or family (if he has ever had any?)

A Charisma of 1 is so over-the-top, even when trying to go "no it's just in reference to humans!!!" that's just way too low. We're talking someone with so little ability to communicate with other humans or influence them that he might as well be nonverbal with any human he comes across. Like the people of this world are likely to be friendlier with actual monsters than the MC, it's ridiculous. To be fair, nobody ever listens to a single thing MC says and he just rolls over and takes it anyways, so maybe the 1 Charisma is more accurate than it seems.

Will he even get paid for this job, or will the workers and receptionist claim the others did all the work, and only pay them? I'm sure he'll do it amazingly, that whomever is at the worksite will try to send a bonus to the guild, but they'll try to keep any from MC despite the bonus being solely for him.

When it comes to his goals and actions he clearly knows the receptionist at the guild and she has some lopsided idea of what it means to be appreciated and cared for as a spirit: we can see this using her disregard of spirit the princess’ outlook on univas as speaking to her stubborness to anything contradicting her own feelings; the idea that a “famed” spirit user is proudly depicted with abused spirits; her being a gold spirit, and the story of Univas’s hair being previously gold before it was recently dyed at the beach means that if we take the path the hero’s party took in reverse she saw his golden hair originally and the dying may feed into her dislike of univas (obviously tinted by the hero’s lies); as well as his words “but means you’ve been accepted here.” All of this points to some failing of Univas’s which he feels some kind of attachment to and will be resolved by the end. He is a character guided by feeling and gratitude, so the thought of it taking forever to earn money is literally not something that crosses his mind. It’s a well-earned savant reassurance that things will turn out just fine so long as he can go and interact with the spirits. Every time he has been sidetracked it has involved spirits: in large part as long as the spirits, wind in Tifon, Earth in Trans, Water in Izumi, along with the countless members of the wind water and soon to be fire lands are happy then he is content at this speed. Trips that should take days or hours are reduced to minutes by travel speed, he has already made trans better by fulfilling part 1 of his plan to remove the engraving, and never overstays his welcome despite EASILY being able to spend two or three times the length in any given area. I legit don’t know where your feelings are coming from, but his character is to endure, remain steadfast and kind, then be rewarded for it.

Yes if you look at how things are changing, Univas has made overwhelming splashes but in very specific areas: a town here an island there, a beachfront there. Word in all of the major areas has either been in relation to the incompetence of the hero’s party, but the ripples of the splashes have yet to move outward. Warswamp still should be in “chase Univas” mode, seeing as before he arrived in the areas where Univas had done good, the government was still under orders and the belief that Univas had ruined a marriage and tarnished the love of the hero and Tifon. Even the Gold spirit at the guild says “I read the newspaper”, meaning the current news is STILL speaking that lie. Once Warswamp returns and announces the horrendous untruth of the “Hero’s Festival”, word of Univas’ greatness can spread, but in this world word still travels slow. Yes it is the trend of this manga: literally nobody likes him because propaganda has taken root and any given person will believe the word of the “Hero who stopped the demon lord”.
As for the Charisma of 1, it makes perfect sense, Univas is only able to act properly now because he is constantly being validated and surrounded by Spirits that people can actually see, but go back to Chapter 1 and see how he is acting there. THAT is the kind of person he was behaving as for THE ENTIRE DEMON LORD CAMPAIGN, in relation to the one month where everything has done a 180. He was described as not having talked to any of the other party members and instead only talked to the magical items that contained spirits for all that time: it’s consistent, he is that bad. Not only that, but it’s been consistent in the story: he has never confronted the actual people in the towns that hate him, but beelined to the spirits and had them do all the interacting. He has been told “come her the spirit wants to talk to you” or been in situations where spirits have outnumbered humans, or literally had the overwhelming reaction of the spirits/the world speak for him, but in the story he has shared barely any direct sentences with other humans. He IS that nonverbal. Once again, you’re right but it fitst the world and characters that have been presented. So far to a tee.

Edit: it also occurred to me that the “Luck 1” is nice writing, considering that, for an MC, his success has been self-made. He asks for things and because of his history of respect and good deeds, he gets rewarded. He comes across these places not because he stumbles into them, but because he has them on his journey. You can’t even say that coming across the island was luck because he was carried there by the water spirits, already knew the place, and was imprisoned within seconds, but made the best out of a bad situation by taking action and kindly asking his resources for help. Since the spirits all have will, even that can’t come down to luck.

I agree with you, the problem is that this is really boring to read as a result. The man's goal is to completely overwrite humanity's current perspective on the human-spirit relationship (so he can properly marry his spirit wives), but no matter how many problems he fixes I just don't see that happening. Even if every single person on the planet ends up with a favorable opinion of him, he still has no charisma and is just going to be "the weirdo that talks to spirits as if they're people." If a scientist discovered the cure for cancer and gave it out for free to everyone for the betterment of mankind, people would still give him strange looks if he also said we should give our toaster ovens the same civil rights as a human.

I will disagree on this part though. While it's true that nothing particularly "lucky" has happened and that good outcomes resulted from his actions or actions of people he's connected with, I don't think anything "unlucky" has happened either. People don't hate Univas due to some bad luck, they hate him because the hero's party were a pack of assholes and purposefully spread propaganda about how useless he is. I think Univas's luck should be whatever the "average" value would be for a regular person, as luck hasn't really factored much in this story at all so far.

The thing that I’ll say to this is what I mentioned before: the way that he’s surrounded will speak for him as opposed to him speaking. Because his moves are all going to be backed by spirit royalty then him being able to make the change is more about each and every one of them being able to speak in unison and agree with him. It’s part of the underlying theme how he is acutely aware of how certain elements don’t get along, what it feels for them to not get along, and what it means to ask them to get along. To use the scientist example, if he said that the cure for cancer was to speak to cancer and tell it not to harm us, but then a fully formed model-gorgeous woman who was made of ‘good cancer' gave a rousing speech backed by a contingent of other model-gorgeous people who were all medical-maladies-turned people, then it would be much easier for higher ups to be on his side and for them to shape the opinion of their contingents. It happened when the wind spirits vowed war, it happened when the well spirit told off the town, it happened when the fairies destroyed the hero’s statue, it happened when the ice queen warmed the beach etc. His failure as a weirdo would be him speaking to petri dishes and exclaiming that “they have feeling and deserve rights”, with effectively no precedent or proof.

I will disagree on this part though. While it's true that nothing particularly "lucky" has happened and that good outcomes resulted from his actions or actions of people he's connected with, I don't think anything "unlucky" has happened either. To this I would say that it’s more of me not explaining how I view luck as a stat, but granted it may not be how luck functions regardless. That low luck seems to be his insanely-balanced-unbalanced situation: he’s selected to be part of the hero’s party (luck), but is effectively tortured by them for all that time (unlucky); he has the ability to see and talk to spirits granted (lucky), but the majority of spirits are invisible and he gets mocked/shunned for it (unlucky); he has the best possible compatibility with spirits by his nature (lucky), but he has the worst compatibility with humans by his nature (unlucky). I was thinking that the stat itself is more that vein. In this case the luck more applies to the hand that he has been initially dealt, to reference your point, the heroes didn’t have to all turn out to be sadists and assholes and liars. But in that same hand he has just ONE more point towards the positive, i.e. if he has been dealt -1000 in terms of bad luck, he’s also been dealt +1001 in terms of good luck, so it comes out to just one point. I wasn’t clear since I was thinking to the “truthfulness of the machine trope” where it’s not lying but it’s also not displaying the clarity of the matter.

Now if this isn’t how the author is actually writing the stat, then throw it all out. I’ll admit an overly favorable interpretation.

As irritating as it is that Univas seems to think that people being ignorant or misguided require no correction whatsoever on the facts I do enjoy that the Wind Princess is now actively telling him to fucking stop it.

At this point he must know that all over the world spirits are being victimised & his name is being spread as either dead or evil. Why would you not care?

There is no indication that he has suddenly changed his immediate goal upon meeting the Gold Spirit. He just says in passing about her being accepted. Sure whatever he can accept her harassing him, but why even bother with the laborer job? It's a bad job that takes a lot of time and doesn't pay that well. Based on his capabilities he can easily do anything else and it would pay better. Hell his carriage moves really fast, he could have cancelled his registration process and gone to a different town where he may receive slightly better treatment. Unless he is specifically taking the job so he can see how Gold Spirit is doing, there's no reason to take this job and there's no reason to think he is doing that. I legit do not care why Gold Spirit doesn't like Univas. It'll probably turn out to be some contrived bs that makes the reader groan. The author has reused the same basic tired plot every few chapters where the same thing happens and Univas responds the same way with a shrug. He does not act like a human being, he experiences no frustration nor any thoughts of concern based on how much every human hates him. Based on how little he actually cares about what's happening around him along the way either he's totally thoughtless and can't conceive of why being hated to this extent is a problem or doesn't care that much about his goals. A person who actually cares about their goal should feel something more than whatever when they arrive at a city and are immediately hit with "wow that Univas guy really is a dumb shitty person that's the direct cause of everything bad in my life and the kingdom at large." I don't understand how you can read this story and come away with the thought that completely fixing Trans is something that's actually particularly important to him. The only way I could be as blasé about things as Univas is would be if it wasn't particularly important to me.

Univas's character is to be a doormat, used and abused until some kind souls take pity on him where he will still be the same person but the people benefiting from him are nicer about it. He will never change or grow in any meaningful way. He is not enduring because that would require him to actually care about how he's treated. Everything presented so far indicates the Univas does not really understand why the other humans act so hostile to him and he does not actually care how other humans feel about him. The latter is particularly gauling because his other big goal of changing how spirit pacts work requires the approval of everyone plus the goddess so he should have some intention of reforming his reputation but he doesn't seem to at all. Aside from the nun, he has not really helped another human on purpose. It was a spirit in trouble and resolving their problem resolved the human's problem. If he wants to change the spirit pact then he needs to care about how other humans perceive him since the reform he wants can only be pushed forward by him. If people don't like him it's more likely they won't even consider his reform proposal. Like in this chapter Gold Spirit points to a that guy that seemingly treats his spirits like slaves based on their picture and says now that's a real spirit user. People like that and people who think the situation is good will not listen to someone they hate like Univas. The way humans are written doesn't help either because most humans have been depicted as morons incapable of even basic reasoning. You're telling me Univas is gonna be able to convince people so stupid they think an incompetent person that can't use magic used magic to blow up their island?
