Looking at the scrapped version, the author probably did not want to overplay the angle of "Sou showered the new girl with praise and then she broke".

Also, it's kinda rare that we got a character with purely good intention. Maybe keeping her that way instead of breaking her is more interesting. Erika-sensei's niche could be that she's always confused and taking Sou's whim as innocently as possible.

While I'm not personally tired of it yet, I can see where the author is coming from. This is the usual setup for one of the character exploding because they got showered with too much praise, and there just isn't much to make it distinct. It's even Hinata sort of playing the straight man again like she usually does.

And then the payoff for the joke is probably really hard to deal with and not worth it. Both in the family's reaction, the class's future behavior towards sensei, and us knowing even if something were to really 'happen', she would be be really really near the bottom of the totem pole in Sou's love interests.

It's already plenty funny for me but I appreciate an author's problem in both having something that fits your vision for the moment as well as not killing yourself down the line when you try to write out of it.

Someone already said as much in the comments of the revised version, but the problem with the original plot was that it didn't serve the class observation arc's purpose, that is, to let Sou continue to be a student of that school. The author kind of lost that thread.
