Well, from what I found the original novel has only 2 volumes and no new one has been announced for more than a year, but this current date it seems happened during the volume one, so we should be halfway before it is over, though the google AI assistant gave some weird information that it suppose to end with volume 2 of the manga on November this year (but this is like 4 more chapters at most which is weird)

I've heard the LNs give a more detailed story... but since the manga seems entirely focused on relationship moments, it does feel like it stutters... and is super, teeth rottingly, sweet. (I love TS'ing this one.) If it's true that this ends in a small number of chapters, I can see why it stutters like this though.

This chapter is the last chapter of the 1st volume of the novel, which also marks the end of their 1st year in high school.

The second volume has 25ish chapters, if I remember correctly, but I don't think they will adapt all of them. If I have to guess, probably 15-20 chapters until we get to the end of the 2nd volume (assuming this is not being cancelled or anything like that).

Spoiler: Regarding their relationship in the novel - heavy spoiler

Nitanda never outright says he loves Machino, either in his monologues or out loud, but it's clear that they both care for each other at the very least.

In the novel, towards the end of the 2nd volume, Nitanda pretty much wants to take their relationship to the next level, but Machino stops him. Instead, she brings up the "if we're still single in 3 years, let's date" stuff they agreed on (this part was not adapted in the manga). This skipped part is why I feel that the manga will take a different route than the novel and have them end up with each other soon.
