The "aliens" speak through heat signals and transmit ungodly amounts of information in a nearly imperceptible speed? We're getting silly now. "Frogler" is such a funny name though. Looks like a Bulbdog from the ARK games.

It makes alot of sense but at the same time not really, Since im dumb, the entire aliens. But it does prove my theory back then, How everything is going for her, shes gonna do her job, regardless of where she is.

I like that they've backed away from calling them aliens. If they're native to Earth, they have as much right to be here as the hoomies do. And while I'd argue that (visual spectrum) light and heat are practically the same and don't really need to be distinguished, for the sake of storytelling it's fine. That's the second time I've seen lifi as a communication vector in the last couple months (the other was some cgdct isekai thing).

A different direction to take the story, but it feels more welcome now with flesh on its bones. I prefer this over some silly eldritch horror thing.

A launcher isn't a bad idea for S&R for its versatility, but it seems like he's quite light on kit all the same. I am looking forward to this portion more than the heat-beings, though. I'd put money that the sub gets wrecked right after he finds the missing crew, and they will get pushed further underground.

an M32 isn't going to deliver nearly the same terminal effect on a target as a naval gun
ffs why even give him an M32 in an enclosed, subterranean forest (fungest?) when the threat profile is mostly creatures that are liable to rapidly close distance (ARMING DISTANCE IS A THING), friendlies are known to be in the area without any knowledge of where?!

Light is fun like that, both a particle and a wave, but heat radiation! These creatures are beyond the Draper point so they should be visible in other forms than heatwaves, really not able to approach and surprise anything at all, which frequency range are they in? /glasses wearing nerdsquad

I actually think that's pretty cool ... and creative.

I actually enjoy this turn to cosmic horror, reminds me of Roadside Picnic a bit. It's akin to ants trying to communicate to us, and even if the heat beings are benevolent in their intent, they're still completely harmful to humans just by their nature.

It's at the very least a lot more forgivable for being speculative science fiction, than getting the military applications wrong, like the other commenter said. There's a reason they can be used with bean bag rounds, because they're pretty low kinetic impact, compared to other delivery systems. Plus even if it's a large cave system, triggering explosives in an enclosed space just doesn't sound like a good time for squishy humans.

I am honestly still not a fan of an advanced precursor species that people have known about for a century, even if it is not as bad as them being outright aliens.

The rest of the chapter was still great though!

I'm digging subterranean aliens a lot more than I was space aliens. It fits the themes of the story better and has a sort of narrative unity that appeals to me.

I agree. I'm glad we avoided all the cliche of gods from the sky. Still have to see what this more advanced technology is going to be.

Ok I think the previous 3 chapters could use a rewrite, but I think I like this direction. At the very least I see the vision now and it's more appealing than the conspiracy posing done previously

stargate is good! it's just that the intial order can be difficult- it goes the movie -> children of the gods/e1 sg1, then a good while with just sg1, then about around the middle, you start watching Atlantis, then continumn, then once sg1 ends, ark of truth, and finally universe
I got confused the first time too because I missed a lot
I will admit I've never actually finished universe since I don't really want to be done with stargate ;_;

so anyway, heat aliens are creative. this seems a lot more solid than the previous chapter- maybe author was struggling with the abrupt shift as well?

Yeah i know stargate soo good, thats why this chapter is 5 days late i was watching stargate all day long i'm in season 9 right now when the Ori come to the galaxy using the super gate.
