I'm guessing he's pushing her more in that spar, it looks like while he's still getting beaten back that he's trying to fight back more and she's probably impressed by his willingness to train after hours. Also he was able to take one of her lessons into account, notice she told him never to break line of sight even after getting hit and he doesn't and then she smiles

he seemed more like a sandbag wasting her time and taking only ONE LESSON to heart lol
and given her character, she would be happy to learn something from the spar herself, not when HE learns something since she wouldn't give a shit since it doesn't help her goal of beating the guy that trashed her grandfather and she obviously doesn't believe akita can do it.
either way, they could've made akita to offer to test her special moves on him or something and he would've surprised her and she actually got something out of it and THEN warmed up to him.
