Bro ofc he doesn't fully commit, gotta come at it from the side rather than head-on.

“I want to have this every day”
Is such a simple innocuous comment, it’s quite a stretch to think that means I want to marry you. Is it a translation thing? In Japanese is there a double meaning?

It’s just such a common trope and I don’t get it.
A classic Japanese marriage proposal goes something like "I'd like to have your miso soup every morning," so yes it is a Japanese thing

It is very much an old-fashioned Japanese trope that can be applied in many different ways:
  • I want you to cook for me/I want to cook for you every day
  • Let's watch the fireworks/cherry blossoms together every year
  • I want to grow old together with you

I don't really know when it was common to propose this way IRL since as far as I can remember, Japanese people also consider this trope to be cheesy. But you can't deny plenty of romantics still love corny one-liners!

How in the world can you have 4 translation groups on this, and translate "suki desu" 「好きです」(as it says in the raws) into "i wouldn't mind having this everyday". Obviously the next chapter they're going to do the typical trope of the Japanese language not needing to use a subject or object in sentences, so there's ambiguity and confusion, and they'll backtrack to "liking" the food and not the person, but this is just a poor attempt at localization.

Sorry to break up the discussion, but it's a translation issue, not a "Japanese thing with food as proposal" in this case. @Jackist @humanities_descent @unyin @gabarbie @Recyclex @Chuito @ravenpeko @Bonzalez @kornboi

Offering to cook for someone everyday was a proposal for a long time in Japan.

It's called cultural meme. The reason you don't get it is because you're not familiar with the culture. It's the same reason the phrase "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" has a certain meaning in Japanese that you wouldn't get it you're not familiar with it.

Finally, a breakthrough. Let's hope it actually has impact, and a lasting one.

Also, the food did actually look delicious as hell. Did not remember knight bro being that good at drawing food, damn.
