Given they were social outcast and at worse get killed and at best get enslaved (or whatever is close to that) and they lived a full life and in the case of the MC was seen as an old man before deciding how to die, I think its good enough.

It's quite bland. If that's the intended ending, then it's bad enough that it feels like an axe.

Honestly it would not surprise me in the slightest if this new uploader was the same guy with a new alt. I have nothing to base that on other than vibes though.

I feel like only the fox wife and the tanuki got character development, the mmc only got less likable as the story went on

I would have loved for him to be reborn, but I guess he'd have to have resentment in his heart for that according to what the Tanuki and the Fox were talking about. And well, we see how his life turned out.

I was a little surprised we actually got to see the story after they died but I'm really glad both of the humans got to live long fulfilling lives and find peace/happiness.... Also oh no crying ichinosuke and ninosuke....

Not sure why people are disappointed. This is clearly the ending it was always building toward, and I'm not not sure how much more story runway the concept really had. Kohaku and Rokosute realized their feeling and moved on to the real relationship. Katae and Matatsugu seemingly did to and they never had any real pretense to work through. Koku is in no shape to do anything assuming he's even alive.

It could have done with a couple more chapters to tie stuff up, but I feel like this was the intended destination.
