That better be like a $50 lunchbox.
then again it could be just the starting pay to weed out those like our main catgirls who’ are constantly getting fired/quitting.
Well. looking at other examples in this manga, beastfolk are still extremely discriminated in the society, even if it is formally prohibited. And why do you need to separate a pay for humans and beastfolk in the first place? If someone is getting fired/slacking/quitting, deal with it other ways, without discriminating by the wages. Though, at the other side of this we have Yaku's situation, who is being rejected by default in all supermarkets, as she complained in the recent chapter.

Well, when you hate someone and want cheap labor and they tolerate it, this is the way. Traditionally (before the 60s), most socialist movements were the main ones against immigration/immigrant labor because from a labour rights perspective the worst thing is having the power of workers and peasants undercut.

Sadly many companies refuse to hire people with a criminal record, and I can only imagine that the problem is even worse in Japan where just being acquainted with a criminal can affect someone's social standing. It makes it extremely difficult for someone who has done jail time for even a comparatively minor offence to find steady employment. This, in turn, leads to higher reoffence rates among ex convicts, as without a means of making an honest living they are forced to settle for a dishonest one, and that reoffence rate reinforces the social stigma against hiring ex convicts. It's a vicious cycle that creates a constant supply of career criminals.
