The other returnee hero manga I can remember was the one by Sameda Koban, its chapter 20 was split in 4 parts, chapter 21 was split in 6( ), but it's still running. At a REALLY slow pace but still going.
In fact mangaka announced volume 6 earlier today.

Yeah that one, it's plot is one on one, could be novel author contact another mangaka or the reverse, but it's still slow pace and split chapters.

If I had to guess by logic it could be something like because Mc defeated the deity that protect the land when outside beings come to invade or attack it, it might intervene Mc peaceful life that he wanted so he is forced to come and stop that great evil or enemy since if he doesn’t do it. His peaceful life would end. I could be wrong here this is just my assumption of what they thought of why Mc will protect them
