Yes and? Does the weaponsmith get credit for a duelist winning a competition? Just as Arti would be sidelined without the doll, the doll is all but useless without Arti's magic.
…….
as far as I know for a long tome in Japan there were two schools of thought: he is the master of the blade, hence he wins easily. And he wields the blade made by this-and-that blacksmith, so he is unparalleled in this battlefield.

But realistically it is both - the wielder and the wielded that makes it great. But let’s be fair - do you think Van will ever ask for any credit in any of this? Wouldn’t he just dump all the glory on his subordinates, adventurers and fiancee?

When it's a legendary-tier weapon, and the duelist is completely useless without it? Yes. Which is the case here.

Heck, it happens IRL too. People keep claiming that guns kill people, and lawmakers want to hold gunsmiths responsible for gun deaths, after all.

Think that example falls apart when you take into consideration that almost without exception, Japanese blacksmiths were peasants. Highly respected peasants for sure, but peasants nonetheless.

Even taking that into consideration, it was the wielder who made a sword famous. The blacksmiths only recieved a historical footnote after a warrior made a noteworthy achievement using their sword.

At best they recieve a historical footnote in whatever legend written about the one who used the weapon.

Uhhhh yes they do, how else do you think the global arms market operates?

When a rifle/combat platform does well in a conflict, orders for said weapon is guaranteed to increase. See Pakistan and Ukraine.

O . o;

Ahh yes, how could I forget the famous gunsmiths of the medieval era...

So without a search engine could you tell is who invented the English longbow? How about name any of the dozens of weaponsmith who forged a weapon for Sun Zu, or Genghis Khan? No?

I mean you might have an easier time with some of the more famous Japanese blades, but I'm fairly sure the wielder had just as much if not more to do with raising their fame as those who made them.

🎶Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing.
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago.
Gone to be noble fighters, everyone.
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?
🎶

Updating a classic song to these events.

lmao, didn't expect to run into this song here, of all places. Cheers.

Instead of individual used by duelist, I'm talking about massed weapons that changed war significantly, because that's a more apple to apple comparison with the story.

Per your request to name creators, a lot of the weapons used in this series is inspired from Da Vinci's designs.

I'm not dismissing personal skills like how we still honor people like Jamsheed the RPG God or Ching Lee, but I think you're dismissing Van's role too much.

I don't even know what people here are arguing about. Nobody is not going to see Van's influence behind Arte, should Arte succeed. That's unavoidable. She just wants to make it not only his achievement so that some honour and glory will be retained by the Ferdinatto family. At the end of the day, those who know already know that Arte has to be Van's fiancée. So, her glory also ends up being his glory, since it's the family glory (Van's baron family). All she can do is to try to lessen Van's direct contribution. Removing it altogether would be absolutely impossible since her own weapons are provided by Van and her whole entourage is made of Van's people. She's just hoping the king will recognise that she, someone originally from the Ferdinatto family, did her part in saving the county. Maybe it will work, maybe not. But then again, even the famous duke lost one of his fortified towns for a while, so maybe the count's position isn't so bad if the invasion is stopped.

and it a pointless story beat just inserted to amp up drama that doesn't need to exist, there's already a war going on we don't alo need to worry about internal politics too.

Will she ever come back from this, I wonder? So far this manga hasn't killed off any of the main characters, at least not yet.
That would be a spoiler, but seriously - those dolls of hers are terrifying...
So slow... by the time this catch up to Season 1, Season 2 would've been finished
Go for the books then? They are up to eight volumes so far....
Feels more like she's going to protect the people of her family's territory more then because she wants to protect her family (her "being a true noble" speech kind of clarify that) her family is a secondary goal, as in "an acceptable lost compared to the people of her old family's territory!"

The "Drama" was that she knew as Van's Fiancee, she isn't OFFICIALLY married into HIS family yet, so doing this without anything of his (The dolls he made clear are HERS so they don't cound as him "helping her" since they were always a gift for her private use and self-protection) will be seen politically as "her defending her home as a member of her family" NOT as his!

She hates herself for pushing Van back from this as he loses a political advantage against her father because of it (It's already a given anyway that her family will likely lose more of their territory to Van anyway as the "Short Straw" once the King and PM make the arrangements for him. IF Van had been allowed to save her family)

Honestly it shows her as a VERY GOOD WAIFU since she doesn't wholely depend on Van to aid her 24/7 100%! As his future Bride, she can do her part as well! Leading the Adventurer's she hired and her performance with the Dolls as even if Van made them, they only work for Puppet Magic users! (Also a GOOD display that Puppet Magic which already showed it, but the doll has to be HUGE to make this VERY CLEAR to even the most ignorant, aren't just "people who seize control over living things with it! It helps BURY the "Creepy reputation" that the Magic has with something VERY impressive, same with Van's own magic! As said the ONLY REASON they have bad reputations is no one BOTHERED to pursue any other way they could be used, mixed with ignorance meaning, though Van unlike Aria is more a MUTANT with his magic type! Aria's puppet magic always had this potential, just cause Puppet Mages are the only ones who can use the Dolls, doesn't mean they can use them BY DEFAULT as alot of this was Aria's OWN skill and training in this level of control, something that was "left in storage to rot" when her mother DISCOURAGED her from pursuing any further in improving out of "Shame" being reminded again she was a "creepy Puppet Mage!")

In this form, she will do to her parents (not intentionally, but you know it will happen) what Van did to his dad (the same, unintentional LOL) and it's "saving the day, despite to the parents being the LEAST LIKELY, hell they thought they were "living in misery barely surviving" (Reminder that Arti's parents just like Van's dad and the IMPERIAL INVASION FORCE FOR THAT MATTER assumed Van's Territory was just a "Barely surviving Village in nowhere's-ville!" A Place to throw "unwanted noble children you HOPE die of something there naturally so then you DON'T get called a "Kin Slayer!" Aria and Van were meant to "be out the way and irrelevant in the grand scheme of things other then "an allegiance made from throwing them in the mud together!" Instead it turned around in the worse way (especially for Aria's father, at best Aria's LOYALITY to her home, NOT HIM means that the King CUTTING UP his territory WON'T be as HORRIBLE as it's going to be anyway LOL, but to be SAVED by "The useless one" who was using something "made by what was suppose to be her EQUALLY USELESS Betrothed" yeah that's going to FUCKING Sting...especially the USELESS BETROTHED THAT'S GOING TO GET MUCH OF HIS LAND AS A REWARD ALONG WITH A PROMOTION! Putting him in a FAR WEAKER position as said "Useless one's Future Father in Law!"

Van's Dad's only positive is that he IS acknowledging that the time of ELEMENTAL Supremacy is coming to an end, not BECOMING WEAK as he showed in the final battle once the enemy lost their RANGE edge against him. But in that "Having any of the basic Elements is an INSTANT you're meant to be strong" while having neither or any of the "unwanted" ones like Van and Arti's means you're "destined to be the load at WORST in Van's case, or can only do ONE THING in Arti's case!" (Controlling organics does come off as creepy, but with Arti's Puppet Magic, it got alot worse when a High Ranking Official was almost assassinated by a Puppet Mage, instead of just seeing the Assassin as just an Assassin, them being a Puppet Mage was used to condemn ALL PUPPET MAGES OF BEING THE SAME! Like there haven't been ELEMENTAL Assassins, but I assume because of the accomplishments of those like Lady Baroness and Van's Father, they were "given the benefit of the doubt" by the Ignorant Masses, where in the Puppet Mages have no major accomplishments so that incident made them an INFAMOUS magic type as people focused on ONE THING of the magic........and anything else was considered MUDANE or LOWLY! Like Arti's showing her mother a Puppet dancing which only REMINDED her that her daughter was a Puppet Mage for one, and for Two "she's wasting precious time she could use making herself more appealing as a Noble Woman and Bride Candidate to a good house that would OVERLOOK her DISGRACEEFUL MAGIC (Typical Older Generation ignorance that one should "Waste their time" doing something to their advantage! Ironic and funny when you call them out on THEIR Time habits in which they'll fight you to the DEATH to prove "their time wasters are indeed NOT TIME WASTERS! Damn Old Timer Hypocrisy LOL). And that's not even getting into the major part that it was an INVENTION that defeated him, NOT MAGIC! The Bombs weren't made with magic, and WORSE they were utilized by the Empire being the FIRST IN THEIR WORLD to realize what a "Bombing Run was" LOL as the Bombs did NOT lose potency by how far they were dropped, at best if one exploded before reaching the bottom, oh well the bomber had ALOT of bombs to drop to their luxry....something Van went "Hahaha NO!" with the LONG RANGE Balistia! The Empire made the First Bombing Run in their world......and Van made the first EFFECTIVE Anti Air Deterrent in their world (Only way to harm Wyvern Riders is if they get close, now with Van's "Turrents" they can fire at further range, making being a Wyvern Rider THAT MUCH MORE DANGEROUS)

There's irony in how Van and Arti's were major contributors to defeating the Occupying Forces using Production and Puppet Magic.......and the Occupying Forces, THEN "Invading Forces" used BOMBS, which could be produced AND Puppet Mages riding out of magic range with Dragons controlled with Puppet Magic. Hell the Biggest Danger during the Invasion to take back the Fortress city was an EARTH DRAGON controlled with Puppet Magic that had a "FUCK YOU I'm a Firing my LAZER" Heat Beam that had a HUGE Radius AND Reach Range when fired, that's an "all they wrote folks" for anyone in front of the damn thing when he fires! The Mistake he made, well EVERYONE in the Kingdom made was that they assumed the Imperial's were going to STICK to one strategy, when it's clear they were ALWAYS aiming for an invasion, at best the King and PM underestimated the TIMING. Discovering later AFTER THE FACT that the Empire's "Peaceful negotiations" were essentially a Distraction from the Invasion, the dependance too much on the Marquis (Van's Dad) success in pushing them back all the time was the Folly, cause they assumed he'd ALWAYS succeed, the irony is if not for his (The King's) Curiosity (And dragging his entourage of knights, the PM and his son the Crown Prince with him to Van's territory), and Van in General, the Invasion Force would have been unnoticed till they took over the March before anyone in central noticed the Invasion force Occupied a now WEAK POINT on their flank! His dad LOST the battle to prevent the Fortress City from being Occupied, and note what would happen to the Civilians if Van and the King's forces hadn't made it there in time or at all if Van wasn't well VAN as the Invasion force WANTED to make sure the spread of information that they occupied the March's Major Fortress City had to be as LESS SPREAD as possible (Of course that was MOOT with the King there, but the Invasion force never expected ANY of the shit to fall apart, majorly starting with Van, and the secondary being the King merely wanting to meet Van put him WITHIN the March RIGHT as their invasion happened, This can be BAD for the Empire if it tries to FEIGN IGNORANCE since the King fucking WITNESS and even fought their invasion force with at least some of their PRINCES the Emperor
s sons commanding the forces, so they can't play "Mere Organized Bandits who HAPPEN to have War Assets like Wyverns and shit' that and TWO Imperial Princes taken captive.) This is a HUGE Blunder for them when the King brings them to task for the invasion as War was NOT declared. But without the factors, I doubt Van's father could have turned things around and take his March back......he'd have likely died in the attempt to retake the City (as there would NOT be backup from the King who was there already AND ESPECIALLY Van's forces who majorly CARRIED the Siege) and he'd likely get wiped out by the Bomb run they were about to do on him
Her father doesn't deserve her; she has a good point though - the King rewards the wrong things, in this case, if her house has to be rescued by another noble, they will lose territory as punishment.
Never mind that her house's main forces are all off at the war the King ordered them to attend.

I note in the KKKBear series, the protag enters the blacksmith's trial - where both adventurer and weapon are tested to their limits, to see which fails first....

That would be awesome, but... Arte's power limits depend on both the size and material of her dolls.

and it a pointless story beat just inserted to amp up drama that doesn't need to exist, there's already a war going on we don't alo need to worry about internal politics too.
It's also a growth arc for Arte too; she gets to step up, act on her own initiative and stand by her decisions.
Like Van himself, this is her chance to show her father what he threw away.

No need to make a SPOILER Tag, as you saw with mine, it was mostly for those who feel "abit anxious" seeing a LARGE walls of Text and NICELY asking me to "tag it" to make it easier to not be intimidated (NOTE this is not me mocking them or being sarcastic, I know it feels that way, but it ISN'T) So no need to spoil Tag

Which is why as said she was more going to protect her people and ungrateful family! Their doomed on that "losing land" to Van thing, but she feels bad because she's making a move politically as his future wife she shouldn't do which is losing him MORE ability to have "her father licking his shoes more!" (as once she marries Van, ties to her family will be zilch as she's now VAN'S family, they made the engagement without a care of getting anything out of it as the originally thought was that Van was placed where he was to "die quietly and out of the way & mind" so they jumped on that for Arte as well, all while trying to PAINT IT as good will which NO ONE, much less the Baroness especially believed that crap! Only their bad luck that the Marriage ended UP being something to their advantage! And it's VERY Less likely Arte will do anything to their benefit after this to make up for losing Van that advantage, even when he made it clear "he didn't care about that....feels like Arte will have to be the Political thinking mind of their marriage as it's clear Van SUCKS too much at that LOL I get his goodwill, but it could pay to have a noble or two "licking his shoes" as at LEAST it would make the King and PRIME MINISTER ESPECIALLY pay less attention to him! LOL)

And yeah He doesn't (Arte's Dad) as said because of the fact he was likely HOPING she'd die of some diasese in obscurity, in essence assuring the "puppet magic" in their bloodline disappears. Which is why it will be Karma and MORE DELICIOUS when he realizes he OWES his "disowned in his heart and mind" daughter his life (as the lord of that territory, his head WOULD be on a pike along with his wife and any relatives had the invasion succeed without Arte's help) same with her mother! Next to when he discovers MUCH of his territory is being handed to Van, his future Son in Law and there's NOTHING he can do or say about it (ESPECIALLY when Arte saves the Day as even if she claims it's "as his daughter" it will STILL be seen as "saving him from his own incompetence to prepare REGARDLESS)

And yeah they do, the fact is WORSE by the fact that his daughter took her own private force (the Adventurer's would count as a Mercenary force) and saved him all by herself (with her Mercs, technically they count more as a TOOL/WEAPON then as themselves, so the glory goes largely to her, ESPECIALLY with her own participation with the Doll!) and the doll and her use will make him look like a fool (Reminder the King HATES this mind set of "Magic is everything" hence his disappointment with Van's dad as he found out via Van very existance and situation that the Marquis was just the same, His "Merit" mindset making one THINK he wouldn't be this as he TRIED TO KILL VAN ON THE SPOT THE SECOND HIS MAGIC WAS REVEALED with no way of PROVING if Van would be a Burdan or Not! But then ONE makes the mistake of ASSUMING Merit means honesty! After all, he assumed the USEFULNESS of his sons BECAUSE they have the Main Elements, so that means USEFUL, but with Van, even if he had OTHER useful skills, the family look LESSER in the eyes of others for having him involved in ANYTHING! THAT is where the King's disappointment is, that he didn't think the Marquis was "mindful" of what others thought of him only no he's exactly that, though this is MILITARY COMPTENCE even though that still would be stupid! It's Politic thinking, STILL as useless as it always is in things that matter) then again as you said, the fact the Empire was able to be a THREAT means he TOO GREATLY weakened his defenses expecting the Marquis to take all the burnt! That's pretty bad thinking since as said before, it was LUCK that Van was as he is, and that the King and his Entourage along with the Baroness were in the vicinity to give aid to the Marquis! Otherwise he'd have to rely on a FOOL who has NO real standing army to protect himself or render aid, if a DETATCHMENT of a BEATEN Invasion Force can threaten their territory (Arte's concern REALLY makes this clear she's been paying attention to her family and KNOWS they don't have the force for a proper Defense! The fact the Imperial Prince set THEM as a Target when they THOUGHT they were an Occupational force is VERY TELLING they did they're homework before the invasion, AGAIN reminder Van was a Spanner in the Works they had NO WAY of knowing about and if they did, they only knew his territory was a village BARELY HANGING ON and while that other prince was foolish, can't blame him for calling BS since there's no WAY they could make a FORTRESS within the timeframe of when the Invasion happened and Van's Assignment to the Area)

Both Arte and Van are childish because they ARE still children :D
Seriously though; van at this point doesn't want any more territory just for the King to stop bothering him. He also cares about Arte, and wouldn't want her in danger.

On the other side, young noble girls being traded off as brides for political gain is pretty much standard; that, if Van had had an elemental skill, sending the "genius son" to establish a military outpost on the shared border would have been a credible threat, and dispatching an otherwise useless daughter for political marriage an underestandable response.
The king's newfound insight into non-elemental magic doesn't detract that it was exactly his attitude that caused van and arte's troubles. If he decided to just give Van/Arte a big chunk of territory as a wedding gift or something, nobody could tell him no. And Arte being the saviour rather than Van wouldn't affect that.

Arte isn't in danger though if she has her dolls. In their one outing to date, they took out half the invading army's force of wyverns by oneshot-beheading them, then oneshot felled large trees to cover the escape. Those things are genuinely terrifying.

this is a bad thing though.
only if he tries to get her back now he sees her value.
It's a shame she DOES have to use her magic for war while still a kid, but again, blame that war-hungry king.

Doubt Arte will have trouble! The Imperial Forces couldn't harm her before! The Mercs with Van's gear backing her, yeah their toast, especially if they have no ground to defend against her dpending on when she appears (if she appears as their sieging, they'll be vulnerable to a back attack as I doubt they put up a Defense from behind in time!)

Plus her father wouldn't DREAM of trying to play "Take backs" as he's in the WEAKER position. IT would be SUICIDE to anger Van by trying to take back his betrothed for no good reason especially since I doubt they'll come out unscaved from the attack (especially if Arte arrives while it's in motion) so the best he can hope for is Arte convincing Van for aid (mostly in making life EASIER for the people of the land, her parents can fend for themselves to be honest LOL)

I do believe the Engagement would have been set regardless just to foster Arte off on someone else! At least in Van's "position" as originally thought, I think her father assumed HE would be in the "weaker" position to him because he is also a "useless Magic Wielder"....oh how Karma is a BITCH in that regard LOL!

Instead he lost much of his territory, turns out his Son in Law is popular with BOTH the King AND Crown Prince, and I don't believe he'll be getting out of the attack incoming without a bloody nose at least. So Arte ended up being MORE then saving his ass from the Oven! She's a FUCKING LIFELINE as Van might have only acknowledged his existence BECAUSE of Arte, as nice as he is, I can't see him looking FAVORABLY at his in-laws after knowing what Arte went through with them! Only her will is the reason he'd even BOTHER and that's refering to those WITHIN what territory they'll have left after all of this! (Especially if people start trying to LEAVE to go to his once it's clear shits ALOT BETTER on his end then where they currently are!)
