Ok as someone who experienced this I'm gonna give you some tips.

1) Make sure they do anesthesia PROPERLY, from all the videos I've watched on youtube, it seems that patients don't really feel a thing. My surgeon however was a mess, and he didn't have time treat my toe carefully, gave me 5 minutes before starting surgery. It hurt A LOT.
Please make sure that your surgeon gives you time before your toe is numb.

2) Make sure someone picks you up, or at least get a taxi. You WON'T be able to walk, it will hurt like a mf every step you take, especially when anesthesia wears off.

3) To describe the pain, after anesthesia wears off, it will feel like someone is hitting you on the toe with a hammer. Every 1-2 seconds. But if you want to get preview, try tapping your finger with a hammer slightly. (By slightly I mean just a little bit, it won't hurt to extent of someone actually smashing it lol)

4) Your toenail will grow out about as fast as any regular fingernail, so it will probably take about month or two to be back to normal. (In my experience)

5) And most important tip, be mentally prepared that your toenail might get ingrown again even after healing. I was devastated when it happened again, and had to do another removal. After another 1 month or so, I shit you not, it started to get ingrown again.

I didn't want to experience toenail removal ever again, so I did something that my surgeon didn't advise me. As my toenail started digging into my skin again, I took q-tip fluff, took about half of it and rolled it into a small cylinder shape, and jammed it as deep as I could (Just so it hurts a little bit while walking, but not enough to actually cause any damage to skin under the nail) under the toenail where it started growing into the skin.
