I haven't really made up my mind yet about the matter, so allow me to play devil's advocate: what does it matter whether you post your comments on the main site or on a linked forum thread? What will change for you and what will you be missing?
I don't know if it's doomed. Bato was like that, and it was fine. As @BakedBanana said, perhaps we should be more concerned about the commenting capabilities on the main site. What about character limitations? Will it allow images, videos, mentions, BBcode, quotations, etc.?
@boursk
From what they’re saying, it’ll be a social media–style comment system with limited features. I like writing structured, longer posts, which the forum supports. Do you really think I’ll be able to do that there? It doesn’t seem like it. And sure, I could still make a forum post, but what’s the point if no one’s there to discuss it?
@Litreara
So from what I understand, is that you don't have a lot of faith in the features that the new comment feature will bring. In particular the limits to character count and maybe BBcode features? How would you feel about the comments feature if it doesn't have a character limit and has all the text enrichment features that the forum has? Would it still be an issue to you?
Do I think we'll be able to do that there? I honestly don't know. I'll have to see it before I'm going to go up on arms about it. At the very least I haven't seen enough reason to believe it will or won't have these limitations. What makes you say that it seems likely to you that it will be as limited as you think?
