The reason we learn mathematics is because it builds our logic and problem solving. Think of maths as having viewpoints on how to solve a problem. The better you get at mathematics, the more viewpoints you have.

Do the stats actually mean anything though? This was asked early on in the manga but no answer as of this chapter. It looks to me like skills are the way to progress, not levels or stats.
