Soooo, mithridatism doesn't actually work in most cases. It's kind of a stupid plot point- you simply can't build a resistance to most poisons, and most of the time you damage yourself for absolutely no improvement.

@kachimo I think part of it is Melissa being an unreliable narrator. For example, I got the strong impression her dad does love her and is trying, but is seriously bad at communication and Melissa fills the blanks in with the worst possible thoughts.

@JustRyn I'm not sure he can? You mean in chapter 10 when she managers to 'shout' at him? That only happens because he glances over at exactly the right time. The first few times when he isn't looking he can't hear her.

@JustRyn He can only read peoples thoughts while looking in their eyes. So she is avoiding eye contact and her thoughts aren't heard.

I don't really understand what is happening here. She wasn't Lilly before, but was still in the story and loved the Prince? Or she was Lilly, but died and travelled back in time? Who was the girl she kidnapped then? Why was she all snobby at the beginning when reading the book if it was about...

@Uthred agreed. It's an incredibly lazy writing gimmick to set character development backwards. I'm getting really bored with the whole arc. I could understand if Athy was actually investigating, but the focus on Jennette feels like the story has just reset with a new (less interesting) girl.
