@mangareader I am familiar with this genre’s tropes. This scene works in the backbiter in an awkwardly written way. It doesn’t seem skillfully done, but I don’t think I’ve seen the author’s work before so I’ll wait and see.

One translation suggestion. Sake is also the generic term for alcoholic drinks, so unless it’s clearly nihonshu, “drinks,” “liquor,” and “alcohol” generally flow better.
