Great first chapter. I like how non-judgmental the teacher is re: sexuality. He treated them as young adults, even taking the time to emphasize that sex is not taboo and that it's just a matter of deciding when and where. It's a breath of fresh air for me, who was mostly schooled in Catholic...
The spoiler below lent a bit of context. Otherwise, I would have thought this was a less-intense navel-gazing writing / over-the-top art style I've come to expect from Koushaku Reijo no Tashinami.
Yayyyyy, it's back!!! <3
And I'm surprised by the voice of reason in this chapter. Masato DID take advantage of the female MC's grief. I just didn't imagine reading this pragmatic take in my trope-filled shoujo reads. XD
This has been my handle and avatar since I started writing anime fanfictions in 2001. "syaoran no hime" was shortened to "Syao-chan" and I've never changed it since then-- in fact, my family, friends, and co-workers call me "Syao" now instead of my birth name, lol.
I can't tell which of these moments made me squeal the most:
Chihiro activating her wifely negotiation/manipulation tactics to convince the usually single-minded Yugami to deviate from his original plans.
Typically pragmatic Chihiro and (especially) Yugami getting mutually flustered by the ear...
I laughed and I swooned all at the same time during the confession. Tsubaki Izumi never disappoints.
Now excuse me while I reread this precious oneshot.
The bit about memories as something you don't go out to create but something that's left over-- that was unexpectedly profound. As they say, life is what happens when you're busy making plans. You don't always have to carefully design/curate your life, just live them. :)
I love, love, LOVE how in-character the cliche "Are you in love with X?" plotline was resolved in this story. Yugami properly thinking through things, the chapter revealing how shallow Hayashima's "love" for Chihiro-chan is, and Chihiro knowing that she isn't some prize to be won but out of her...
I'm glad the mangaka didn't waver from the divorce ceremony plot. I would have cringed so badly if the chapter went into a Disney-esque route, especially when the old couple appeared.
For a moment there, I thought the old woman would turn out to be the fiancee in disguise, helping out. XD
Oh, and yes, I missed you, Professor... as always!
Even the nice-looking art couldn't mask how creepily possessive male mc was. I would have given it a pass if there was an explicit teachable moment where female mc tells him that what he was doing was utterly wrong and detestable. But, nope!
Like the other folks here, I'm usually cool with...
The flashbacks, the world-building, the heartbreakingly relatable journey of letting go and living on... oh god, this manga is so, SO good! I'm so glad I powered on to read this even with my aversion to tragedy tags. This hit really close to home.
Excellent read. I love the little touches of reality here and there (ageism, difficult choices, family dynamics) and I look forward to following the rest of the story.
