This is the kind of world building I enjoy, I wish the release cadence for this series was faster.

As this point you might as well just come out with it. Even if the mom didn't already know (and it seems like she does), she kind of gave the vibe that the truth would be nbd to her.

He seems pretty competent for a scheming bureaucrat. Immediately realized he can't control MC through force or blackmail and decided the best course was honest negotiation. Schemers in most other series think they're way better than they are and would've made a fatal mistake here.

There are just so many, many ways you could resolve this conflict other than MC just going along with it, but naturally he will because that's how the author wants to railroad the plot. Oh well, at least the art is still hot.
