I don’t see it that way, they actually stopped the invasion but then reverted that outcome and didn’t stop it the 2nd time. It’s like if you happened upon a train driving towards someone tied to the track and so you flip a switch changing the track and saving them but then you lost your wallet...

So the “please forgive them” was because they “unstopped” the alien invasion. (not going to say they caused it because that ball was already rolling before they were involved, but the choice that the scout made was reverted and whatever happened to the scout after the time travel caused a...
