I'm casting my vote for "Invasion from the Mirrorverse" as an explanation. What he sees in his dreams is what his other self does to allow for infiltration.

I think it may be a play on his (the character) fears that what happens in his nightmares will be mirrored in reality. Or perhaps foreshadowing something yet to be revealed about what he woke up to.

Hopefully, this will be like that one Horror manga with chapters numbered like radio stations about the creepy hair god thing, where a lot of chapters seem random and barely connected early on, but future chapters start connecting the dots and follow up on this early ones.
