It took me a bit to figure out what settings would emulate the behavior of the old reader most closely, but now I think I'm okay with it. The addition of the bottom bar showing where the current page is within the current chapter is incredibly helpful. I'm using Safari 11.1.2 on macOS 10.13.6...
