Very likely, or author could go about it a bit differently and make it a red herring with Toraji slowly going insane but still lucid enough to think the killer is his own split personality and turning himself in, only for the actual Clownman to show up again

Initial impression: seems like Clownman thinks his creator has been wronged by everyone despite the outward appearance of a perfect life and is doing vigilante work to right those wrongs, so to speak. Maybe he targeted the wife because it is possible she was having an affair with the editor?
