Surprised me quite a bit . . . somehow I was expecting one of those kind of adult semi-serious office romances and instead it's a gag manga. Not that that's bad, just . . . whiplash!

There's practically a genre of these the-guy-looks-tough-but-has-a-heart-of-gold romances. But I'm a sucker for them anyway, I never seem to get tired of this schtick, and this is a nice example of it.

@Serenata The tension is indeed high. Will they rise to the occasion or get psyched out by the quality of the competition? But I liked what the old man said. "It's not like a band is only good if all the members are talented." One of my all time favourite rock (broadly, more punk really)...

@migh I think it's very good. The downer stuff is affecting and important but not wallowed in. The MC has things to mourn, and she mourns them, but spends a lot of her time doing positive, proactive things.

I hate adults who are so goddamn sure they know best that there's no point even asking kids what they want.

@Serverclosed Yeah, it's slang. I mean you're quite right, it is a double negative, which is more formally a no-no, there's just a few informal speech patterns that ignore the rule. English in general is great at ignoring its rules.

Jeeze, isn't she supposed to be some kind of zashiki-warashi or something? I thought they were supposed to be helpful.

@Serenata I dunno. So he comes back home because he was asked to and they basically nag him and don't remember what food he hates, and that's probably pretty much how they deal with him all the time, and he should apologize. Sure, whatever. Sure, yeah, he's not smooth. But he's a high school...
