Nah, it actually was the other way around, the serious action arc was succesful and brought more attention to the series. Ranks and sales improved slightly. It even ranked #1st when main villain was revealed and Nico got turned back to being a child.

Yeah, they could have easily fix it by using unchange or unmove (or both) at the earth while the sun was extinguished. Or extinguish only part of the sun. While Unburn would ptotect them from burning alive from the heat.

Reading this made me conscious of how rare male + male duos are in Jump. Recently it's been mostly boy + girl in the center of attention. Maybe it tries to differentiate itself from Nue's Exorcist and make bromance instead of harem. And pull in some female jump readers, MC looks more attractive...
