@Hobnobs That's not been the case at all in my experience. When you use black and white manga raws, it looks fabulous. I did that for the scans of Tatoeba, as well as My Home Hero. The upscaling turned out perfectly. Even tried it on these ancient scans of Hokuto No Ken, and it also worked fine...

@LoktarOgar There is a solution to the low resolution. Run the scans (pre-cleaning or post-cleaning, doesn't matter) through Waifu2x which uses AI upscaling through your GPU. Also has fabulous noise removal without destroying the screentones: https://github.com/nihui/waifu2x-ncnn-vulkan
