Together with Be Blues these two manga's offer a nice overview of Japanese football: - be blues for the high school route in football - ao ashi for the youth teams - and if you manage to survive both: giant killing is waiting. Thnx for translating!

@rangobongo: actually "Gabriel" from Giant Killing reminds me a lot of Ronaldinho, at least in looks :)

Ao Ashi - Vol. 20 Ch. 210 - Becoming the Symbol of Under-18 Football

Thanks for the chapter 😊 Maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but I think this arc is about instilling a winner mentality in players versus nurturing individual qualities. A team of incredibly talented players can still play lacklustre if they are coached wrongly (aka Bayern under kovac) or fail to...

Ao Ashi - Vol. 20 Ch. 210 - Becoming the Symbol of Under-18 Football

@duckydoggo I had the same. I also read giant killing where the j league clubs are fictionalised. For example Gamba Osaka is called Osaka Gunners Tokyo Verdi is Tokyo Victory Nagoya grampus is Nagoya gran palace And so on

    Ao Ashi - Vol. 20 Ch. 209 - Beyond a Shadow of a Doubt

The link Gin posted says enough, but when looking for team names and cities mentioned here i found this tidbit: "Aomori and its surrounding area are renowned for heavy snowfall, the heaviest among all Japanese cities, and, in fact, among the heaviest in the world."

Ao Ashi - Vol. 20 Ch. 207 - November Snow

Ao Ashi - Vol. 20 Ch. 204 - Fukuda and Noriko Once More

Haha, just found out akutsu is supposed to mean "low lying land". As a Dutchman I find that rather funny as our country is dubbed "the low country". Ok akutsu is now officially dubbed "Jaap Stam" (former defender from PSV, Ajax and Man United, known as a real hardcase)

Ao Ashi - Vol. 20 Ch. 203 - Last Request

@petrichormus: I explained this before. Akutsu and Aoi are essentially two sides of the same coin - both are able to trigger a reaction in others. For Aku its the Conflict method (negative energy) making other people think "I'll show ya" and for Aoi it's the spirit method (positive energy) -...

Ao Ashi - Vol. 19 Ch. 190 - Reason for Smiling

I'm actually thinking Tripone is of Brazilian or Portugese ancestry. His first name is Rufin in the translation, but in japanese sounds like Rufino or Rufiño, which sounds more Spanish or Portugese

Ao Ashi - Vol. 17 Ch. 176 - For Our Friend's Sake, For Our Sake

Same outlook for both Aoi and Akutsu. Only Aoi forgets Taira completely, while Akutsu can't keep his trashy mouth shut. Two sides on one coin dayo
