Loved his talk with someji in the hospital, he had it rough growing up, someji lost his whole family during the war, but he did his best to make it to where he’s today. I was so happy someji thought of Rei as a comrade in arms, they both did their best to survive and support themselves.

I love rereading this series, it’s really insane how much character and personality Rei is showing on and off the shogi board now. Rei has come so far from the depressed boy from chapter 1. This arc is still as funny as the first time I read it.

This father is a grade A piece of work, total scum who abandoned his family and only came back when he’s in a pinch. So glad Rei stood his ground, my boy has grown so much. Rei and the kawamoto sisters are practically family, and they will stand by each other.

I love Rei and the kawamoto sisters in this arc, this is the arc I want to see the most get animated.
