I don't think he's specifically referring to himself when he said that. He's whining a lot about his own life's troubles so I can see people make that connection but he's generally talking about how messed up the world is as a whole. His position is but a part of the sickness he sees in the way...

I decided to go back and reread this and god, the fluffiness of the girls is so spot on.

You know, I've been following this story since it was first released, and god even now Rinjin reminds me a lot of my kid sister when we were growing up, so I inadvertently get really nostalgic when I read this.
