Because manga of this type are aimed towards teenager or even adults pretty much are like the MC, shut-ins or those that are seen as "outcasts". This way, they can self-insert into the manga and imagine they are the MC and girls are throwing themselves at them because they're "nice guys"...

Hikari will never be happy with Yuu because she'll always be comparing herself to Ayami. She being Yuu's "first" will never go away and someone as sheltered and naive as Hikari won't be able to deal with that.

Ngl, while the twist was a wild one and the story has fell off somewhat, the insane drop in rating is entirely undeserved. Imagine rating something a 1/10 because some drama was introduced. Funnily enough, I'd bet anything on most of the low ratings coming from "holier than thou" people...
