    Interview #8: Hachimitsu Scans

Just wanna give my thanks. I've been reading Hachimitsu's releases since 2012 or so and Ookami Shounen and Kakukaku Shikajika are among my favorites. Here's to another nine years.

Which edited SFX do you like to see the most in manga?

Sfx in the margins. Even if it's splurtspurtsplurt, I wanna know what's going on but redrawing it messes with the flow of the page since English reads left to right.

    Rebranding and advertisements

@dube Agreed on 3. They're set up so it rewards popularity, which in turn makes them more popular. Something like staff picks would be a great to promote older or more niche series. There's a few series I'd love to rec for something like that.

Would you kindly explain this abstract art?

Don't know, don't care, and unless the artist says something, I'll never know. What I can say, while there's definite bullshit in abstract art, the underlying concept is misunderstood and good abstract art requires skill. Take, for instance, Piet Mondrian, he's the guy who did the paintings that...

    Rebranding and advertisements

While I support our benevolent, overlords in this new cat-centric rebranding effort, I think the ads may have infected my icon. Might be terminal.

Blue Period - Vol. 2 Ch. 5 - Cram School Debut of the Dead

Hate to repeat myself, but I always look forward to when this updates. The bit with Yaguchi and his mom was especially well done.

    Unpopular opinions

-paneling matters more than story -honorifics should not be kept in translations -simple art is better than detail heavy art for comics because it's easier to parse and manipulate for layout purposes -very few series should be longer than 7 volumes

    Official Meetup 2019 Thread

@Zephyrus Your best bet would probably be to list the major cons and dates in each location, have people weigh in, narrow it down to ten or so, and then put it to a vote. If you opt for it, voting should allow for multiple options so people can list all the cons they would be willing to attend...

US MangaDex Meetup: Aye or Nay?

If it's like an hour away from me, I might check it out, but nah otherwise. The userbase is probably too spread out for a meet up to be feasible unless it's at a major anime convention.

    Blue Period - Vol. 1 Ch. 4 - Godly

Always glad to see an update of this and I definitely appreciate how quick they've been too. @OniBarubary Japan's an hardly an exception though. IME, Western media is guilty of most of the same unless it's some indie game that commodifies the identity in an entirely different way.

REIGEN: The Man With Level 131 Max Spirit Power! - Vol. 1 Ch. 7 - REIGEN

This was fun, but I'm glad to see it end. Better to finish a series on a high than let it drag on until it's a ghost of its former self.
