It's not because he's a human, it's because he feel that knowing about who he have to deal with in a daily basis is worth the investment.
That way of thinking would work with literally any student of the animal school.

It's more like he ends up getting involved with the other animals, both when studying, eating and frequenting the same space, so you end up learning about them to know better how to handle them.
You don't need to do that about humans if you're one, as you don't need to do that about...
Better stop while still high quality than degrading just for the sake of having content, I guess?
But I'm the type to prefer to have a low-quality raw + translation to read than none at all when the content itself is worth.
