You're missing the point in that the author is choosing to portray people as morally gray - good people can do bad things, obviously... And frankly, you're being disingenuous by portraying me as "defending" anything, I'm merely trying to confirm why you're bothering to point it out? It's a work...

This is a good long while before even the medieval period, and such tactics were quite standard if you could manage them. The Geneva Conventions / Checklist (if you're Canadian like me) only came about in the early 20th century.

I am aware of that. But at the same time, the existence of magical artillery makes this plan needlessly dangerous unless, as I said, they're trying to impress by taking the place mostly intact... Though the firebombs makes me doubt it a bit.

A needlessly complex plan if all they wanted to do was take the fortress, but taking it intact is probably going to impress the knight order far more than my previous thought of just using the magic artillery cannon to flatten the walls and get inside that way.

Reminder that Japan's work culture is so screwed that businesses that quit peoples' jobs for them are now taking off because of the power harassment and/or plain regular abuse people receive is just that bad that they can't quit personally.
