No one will ever appreciate the amount of work it takes to clean page-wide sfx besides someone else who does them. It's a thankless task. I'm sure 99.99% of readers would be fine with the sfx translations in the margins.

She couldn't outrun it anymore because of her leg so she couldn't make it to the spell location. I don't know if she grabbed onto it to steer it to the spell or if she was doing a last ditch effort to fight it and they coincidentally ended up at the spell.

Turner isn't blind, they're "clueless/sightless to their surroundings." They don't read the room or think critically about their actions.
