From this page it looks like he was probably in HS when she was in elementary school. Here it says that she hasn't seen him since she was in elementary school, which was probably when he left for college. The age difference is probably like 6 to 8 years, I'm guessing.

I keep notes and yes, this was the first time we got their "last" (family) names. To the best of my memory and my notes, they had each heard the others' friends call them by their given names but had never used each others' names before. They only chatted as friendly strangers.
