It's definitely not a break-up story. Read the mood of the manga: it's light-hearted, a little bit silly, no serious drama whatsoever. So that's how it's gonna be: Kase loses the race, tells this other chick how things really are and that's it, we move to the next arc, where Yamada and Kase...

At this point I'm more interested in Harumin than in these two. I predict the childhood friend guy drama for another 10 chapters.

That's the prime example of forced drama here. When you just have no idea how to continue the story without finishing it too soon, so you're dragging the hell out of it. And cause of the light-hearted mood of the manga, you can't just put some serious stuff in the plot, so you're stuck with 'oh...
