I see where you're coming from, but i think the scenes were supposed to be interpreted as such:

The whole idea is, that while he looks like an average japanese guy, the average hyuuman appearance is so beautiful (because of the goddess' tweaks) that he looks monstrous by comparison. Uglier than even the ugliest hyuuman.

This could've been really good, but they introduced the new characters too fast without properly exploring the dynamic of the ML and FL.

Its probably related to the fact that hair care is a type of grooming, like moneys do with removing parasites. Grooming another person is a pretty intimate act, both because of the proximity and because of the trust it signifies
