I believe the change was made in order to broaden the story and make it more natural. By focusing only on fetish stuff not only the it would turn annoying but also the characters would fell hollow since their background would abruptly end not explored.

I'd say the background was totally unnecessary considering where the story is going, and the way he took his power was totally random/convenient. Still, development can save. Right now MC's ability is more like a curse than a blessing since everything everywhere will indefinitely harm his weak...

Folgore deserves a raise. Guy not only fought a demon killer but also remained in character throughout everything to give his friend a bit of hope.

Now, if the story follows a harem route just to end up with kotaro being a girl, it would be perfect.
