I think it's implied (not shown) that the spider bit the human who was already hanging himself (and maybe was dead already), and this is what caused her to become a jorogumo. That whole bit seems a little weak to me because spiders don't normally eat humans or drink their blood, they just bite...

Next time: pretty much wall to wall (margin to margin) action. Zanma has never done this much before, think he wanted to try it!

It's Complicated. Foxes are definitely Japanese natives, as are tanuki, even if China also had the idea of monster foxes. On the other hand, domestic cats were brought over from China to Japan around 500 AD, to help protect Buddhist scripts from being eaten by mice, and legends of monster cats...

So this is total speculation, not supported in any way by the story yet, wild theory, but since we just got this lore... We've been assuming the Big Bad guy gathering the yokai to attack the town (mister protagonist hair) is a yokai, but what if he's a human descendant of that bad second lord...

I kind of think only Mutsumi the genius even thinks that deeply about it... most of them like Kogane just brute force the forms they know till they get comfortable with them, I think. The might feel all that stuff, but they aren't thinking about it deeply. Chap 132 says Yukio 'later' was...

I have it in my head that Yukio trying to be Goro kind of looks like a very early Gegege no Kitaro character (which would be appropriate), and that after he gets a human face for one panel the next looks like a very early Kitaro himself, but don't have the first volume on hand to check out...

So I guess Shigeomi is safe for now... Pretty wholesome considering!

He was! And every now and then Zanma just gets the urge to do something SRS or action and this is his ride... at least it never goes on for too long, like Sakamoto Days and Juujutsu Kaisen going entirely fitefitefite and losing what made them great in the first place (Kindergarten Wars knows...
