If an author knows their series is gonna get cancelled they have to wrap it up the best way they can, so I don't think it's a matter of them not being able to write something consistently engaging.

I really can't see the author going for a super violent ending. Everything's been to levelheaded up until now, while most stories that end with someone going crazy and murdering someone builds up to it a lot more.

I think you've drastically misinterpreted everything that's been happening in this manga.

He's coming to terms with what happened to him and why things ended up being the way they are. Him being willing to help his mom, even in a sort of apathetic way shows how he's willing to change and move on.

I think the fact that she just is gone is so much more fitting though (if she is dead), she doesn't really deserve a grand finale.

In the original text he says ''俺なにも悲しくない. ひでえよ.'' Which if literally translated would be ''I don't feel sad at all. I'm cruel(any other definition of the word ひどい)'', which means the same thing as ''I still feel nothing. I suck.''

Last chapter people were talking about how she couldn't be dead cause you didn't see her, and now that he's confirmed it with his own eyes people still doesn't think she's dead. It's really weird how people think the author would do something so grand with her death when really everything big...

Both those things mean the same thing. Even the way you interpret ''I suck'' as meaning you're bad at something could be applied here i.e I'm a bad person because I don't have any strong emotions about this situation.

Why are people so hung up on needing to see everything for them to understand what's being conveyed? I really wouldn't put it past the author to keep her alive for stupid reasons, but has no one who's reading this ever heard of subtlety? Maybe people should try reading between the lines more...
