I like the investigation into Kurosawa's motivations, or lack thereof. It isn't often that you have your protagonist heading into the final showdown feeling mostly indifferent and feeling mostly a sense of obligation and inertia to do it. It felt like a very authentic situation.

Good point, I do think that will have to pay some sort of role... at the same time, I'd be sad if Shimada just lost due to time, it wouldn't feel as satisfying for Kiriyama.

Another great chapter of shogi action!! Of course there has to be some hidden genius in Kiriyama's move... I feel like we've probably seen just enough that an actual irl shogi expert could discern what's gonna happen next, but that isn't me lol.

I think, in the end, Koinosuke will have a moment of epiphany during this fight, and become a strong man in his own sense, just like Kurosawa did against Nakane in the original series. But it will come at the cost of being a pretty boy genius that the ladies adore.
