It always feels weird reading the manga and seeing how much stuff the anime skipped, even though it was a pretty faithful adaptation and knowing fully how it typically is. You just never get used to it.

Someone probably did answer but I don't want to spoil myself. It seems pretty obvious to me that because the subspace is his own creation its rules aslo dependent upon Makoto's unconscious view of it. So its inhabitants indirectly owe their existence and get their power from him.
