There's a light novel that continues on after the web novel, I think. I haven't read it, so I don't know if this is what happens in it, but I've seen people posting spoilers from it in the comments of a few chapters.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but I couldn't remember if they explained it or confirmed it. It really does happen way too often in manga like this. And, like you said, it just feels like shoehorned in forced conflict with no logic.

Is it just me or does this seem really disjointed? Is it missing pages, or does it just cut between scenes really weirdly?

Did they ever explain how/why he failed? And why is he even bottom of the class when he went toe to toe with his giant teacher friend that no one wanted to fight? I know this whole manga is stupid, but this is even stupider.

Considering he was trying to put all the work on the other school, he probably would've just blamed them if things went wrong as well. He didn't have a plan to get anything done, aside from pushing all the work onto someone else. Also the teacher who forced Chi into doing it sucks.

Wait, why do you think the parents are dead? In the first chapter the sisters show up in, they literally say "mommy and daddy have been super worried about you." There's a whole bit about his dad organising a funeral for the grandma. His sisters are in high school and live with his parents.
